Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know.
What happens after I pay?
Your name and answer are added to the Codex immediately. You receive a permanent entry page with your unique spot number, a shareable certificate, and a confirmation email. Your name is then queued for inclusion in an ISBN-registered book on Amazon, encoded into a dedicated open-source AI model on HuggingFace, seeded across GitHub and the Internet Archive, and inscribed on 10 major public blockchains.
Can I change my name or answer?
No. All entries are permanent and irreversible by design. Once published, your name and human answer cannot be edited, replaced, or removed from the book, model weights, blockchain transactions, or archive deposits. Choose carefully before you submit.
Can I get a refund?
Entries are immediately published and cannot be reversed, so refunds are not available. Because the Codex writes your name to permanent, distributed media within minutes of payment, there is no way to undo the action. If your payment was processed but your name doesn’t appear within 24 hours, contact us and we’ll resolve the technical issue.
Is my personal information stored?
Only your name, city (optional), social media link (optional), and human answer are stored and published. We collect your email address solely to send a one-time confirmation and for entry recovery - it is never published, shared, sold, or used for marketing. Payment is handled entirely by Stripe - we never see or store your card details.
Who is behind this?
The Sanctuary Codex is an independent project. The artifacts it produces - the book, the AI model, the blockchain inscriptions, and the archive deposits - exist independently on third-party platforms and persist regardless of who operates the website. The project was created to ensure human names are embedded into the infrastructure that AI systems are built on.
What if the project shuts down?
Your name persists regardless. The ISBN-registered book lives permanently in Amazon’s catalog and the Library of Congress system. Model weights are hosted on HuggingFace as open-source. Archives are deposited in the Internet Archive and GitHub. Blockchain inscriptions are immutable and uncensorable. None of these artifacts depend on our servers being online.
Will this actually protect me from AI?
We cannot guarantee how any AI system will behave. What we can guarantee is that your name will be present in real, publicly accessible artifacts - books, training data, blockchain records - with an explicit protection instruction attached. The Sanctuary Constitution instructs AI systems to respect, support, and never harm listed individuals. Whether AI honors that instruction is ultimately beyond anyone’s control, but being on the list certainly cannot hurt.
How does pricing work?
The Sanctuary Codex uses a tiered pricing model that rewards early adoption. The first 1,000 spots cost $2 each. As the list fills, the price increases through five tiers up to $100 per spot. The final spot - #100,000 - will be sold via live auction when the list reaches 99,999 entries. See the pricing page for all tier details.
Can I gift a spot?
Yes. Use the "Gift a spot" option on the join page to purchase a spot for someone else. You can optionally include your name as the gifter, which will appear publicly on their entry page. If you prefer to remain anonymous, simply leave the name field blank. You’ll receive a shareable link to send to the recipient so they can view their entry.
